![]() ![]() Driving the start of the Cabot Trail was so exciting. Such a pretty spot (obviously a recurring theme in Nova Scotia). I spent about an hour walking on the beach. My first stop was a photo stop of the Mabou Harbour Lighthouse followed by Inverness Beach. Tonight would be spent in Cheticamp and it was looking like a chance of rain today, but definite rain the next day, so I wanted to see and do as much as I could. September 10 - I had decided to have multiple one night stops along the Cabot Trail instead of one base. Mary Church lit up then back to the inn for some rest. I had a nice seat on the patio and could sort of watch the sun go down. They were short staffed so service was slow but that was ok with me. ![]() Dinner was back in Port Hood at The Clove Hitch Bar and Grill. I would have considered swimming if it were earlier in the day. I rolled up my pant legs and walked in the water - surprised how warm it was. There was a detour heading to the West Mabou Beach and I ended on a bit of a wild goose chase due to a detour (in the end, I realized that I should ignore the detour sign because the beach came before the actual detour). I got settled in and rested for a few minutes before heading for the next beach. The room was an odd layout but clean and comfortable. My lodging for the night was Mabou River Inn. I don't drink whiskey but tried the sample and still enjoyed the tour. They do tours on the hour so I went on a distillery tour. The weather was good so I could have sat there all day enjoying the scenery. Enjoyed a relaxing and yummy lunch (best meal of the trip) amongst the pretty flowers. There was a musician playing in the pub but I was avoiding indoor dining so ate on the patio. What a beautiful spot! I would have liked to stay here but I think it was a 2 night minimum at the time. Next up was a brief stop at my first beach of the week - Port Hood Beach - for a quick photo.īack on the road, I headed to the Glenora Inn and Distillery. I was hoping I might get to hear some live music at some point during my trip. I drove the Ceilidh trail and pulled into the parking lot for the Celtic Music Interpretive Centre for a quick photo (they are closed on Saturdays). I initially wanted to stop in Antigonish to walk around and have lunch but it was a little early and I had a lot I wanted to see, so gave it a miss. My first stop was Sobeys in Elmsdale to pick up some snacks and the second was the NSLC store in New Glasgow for some wine to enjoy in the room. I stopped into the free breakfast and hit the road. Rain for 10 of the 11 days and no sun! When I looked outside it wasn't raining but it was very foggy and I couldn't see across the parking lot. September 9 - Prior to this trip I was a little concerned by the weather forecast. It was around 9:30 pm so picked up a sandwich at the Tim Hortons drive thru for a late dinner. Picked up a rental car from Hertz (got a good deal using AAA/CAA discount) and checked into the Holiday Inn Express near the airport. I flew Porter for the first time and had a good experience. September 8 - I live less than 2 hours from Ottawa so I flew direct to Halifax. ![]()
